Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about ImageConverter

General

Is ImageConverter really free?

Yes, ImageConverter is completely free to use. No registration, no hidden fees, no premium plans. Convert as many images as you want.

Do you store my images?

No, absolutely not. All image conversion happens directly in your browser. We never store, transmit, or access your images in any way.

Can I use this offline?

Once you load the page, the conversion happens locally, so you can convert images offline. However, you'll need an internet connection to load the initial page.

Is my data secure?

Yes. Since processing happens locally in your browser, your images never leave your device. No data is sent to any server.

Conversion

What image formats are supported?

We support JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, TIFF, and AVIF. You can convert between any combination of these formats.

What is the maximum file size?

The maximum file size depends on your browser's memory. Typically, you can convert images up to 50MB without issues.

Why does my image look different after conversion?

Some formats use lossy compression (like JPEG) which reduces file size but may affect quality. PNG and TIFF are lossless. The default quality is set to 90 for optimal balance.

How long does conversion take?

Most conversions complete in under 1 second. Larger files may take a bit longer depending on your computer's performance.

Can I batch convert multiple images?

Currently, we support converting one image at a time. You can queue conversions by repeating the process for each image.

Technical

What technology powers ImageConverter?

We use Next.js, React, Sharp for image processing, and Tailwind CSS. All image processing happens using the Sharp library in your browser.

Can I convert images on mobile?

Yes! ImageConverter is fully responsive and works great on smartphones and tablets.

Which browsers are supported?

ImageConverter works on all modern browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and mobile browsers (iOS Safari, Chrome Mobile).

Why is my image conversion failing?

Possible reasons: 1) Invalid image file format, 2) File too large for your browser memory, 3) Browser compatibility issue. Try a smaller file or different format.

Format Guides

When should I use JPEG?

JPEG is ideal for photographs and complex images with many colors. It offers good compression but uses lossy compression, so some quality is lost.

When should I use PNG?

PNG is perfect for graphics, icons, and images that need transparency. It uses lossless compression, preserving all quality.

When should I use WebP?

WebP is a modern format offering superior compression compared to JPEG and PNG. Recommended for web use to reduce bandwidth and load times.

When should I use TIFF?

TIFF is best for professional work and archival purposes. It supports lossless compression and is used extensively in photography and publishing.

When should I use AVIF?

AVIF is the newest format with excellent compression and quality. Perfect for modern web applications, though browser support is still growing.
